PT Job: Registrar at Uptown Arts

Part-time position to manage student attendance records and welcome 5-10 year old city kids to Uptown Arts,  an after-school arts program at Liberty & Main Streets in downtown Cincinnati. We’re looking for a friendly, detail oriented, multi-tasker who is able to work at a fast pace and loves working with children.  Pay is $16/hour. Hours are 3-5:45 pm Tues.– Fri. and 8:30-12:30 Sat. mornings.  Starts ASAP until May 23 with the summer off, then restarts Sept. 9.  Email bernadettek@uptownarts.org or fax 369-7943. 

  • Greet children and parents in the waiting area and maintain order.
  • Manage all checking in at the beginning and parent signing out end of classes.
  • Hand out nametags and get latecomers to class as they arrive.
  • Remind parents to escort children to the bathroom before class begins.
  • Any child sitting in the waiting area unsupervised during classes must be reported to a staff member.  If they are approved to be there, they must bring a book, homework, etc. to occupy their time.
  • Take out crayons, markers and drawing paper for children at table and put items away 10 minutes before classes start and be sure children are sitting with their class and not at table.
  • Keep pencils sharpened.
  • Have classroom assistants take children to class at the appropriate time. Coats and backpacks should be brought upstairs too.
  • Call students who do not show up to find out the reason why and record in book
  • Record number of children in attendance by class.
  • Call students who did not attend that day to find out detailed reason why they have missed.
  • If a pick-up person is not on the list, call the parent to determine if the child can go home with this person.  Add person to pick up lists and folder if parent approves.
  • Children arriving 15 or more minutes late must get teacher’s OK before putting them in class. Notify a staff member to get their permission.
  • Answer phone during classes with back-up from staff.
  • Call parents of children not picked up 10 minutes after class ends. Call anyone who forgot to sign out to make sure the child is safe and went home with parent.
  • Talk to Char about any discipline problems in the waiting area
  • Parents may visit their child’s classroom for 10 minutes on their first day of class. If a parent asks to visit again, they must get permission from Lois.
  • Any procedural or policy changes must be approved by Lois and Dick before implementing.
