PT Job: Executive Director at Betts House Research Center

from the job posting...

The Betts House Research Center, an 1804 historic house museum located in the Betts-Longworth Historic District in Cincinnati’s West End, dedicated to enhancing our community’s awareness of the architecture and building arts in “Ohio’s Oldest Brick house,” has an opening for an Executive Director, effective April 1, 2008.

The Research Center generates and displays annual exhibits focusing on building arts (past exhibits have included decorative iron works, bricks, and fireplaces) and on historic preservation (past exhibits have been “Lost Cincinnati” and “Endangered Cincinnati.”)

Each summer, inner-city youth participate in “Bond at the Betts House,” a hands-on day camp during which the kids learn various trades such as masonry, blacksmithing, roofing, house painting, and an introduction to architecture.

The Director will oversee all operations of the house, including structure and maintenance, day-to-day administration, guest tours, membership development, grant writing, and programming, and will work with the Betts House Research Center Board of Trustees, and solicit volunteers as necessary.

The successful candidate will be an organized and self-motivated multi-tasker.  Basic computer and grant writing skills are required, networking and communications skills are essential.  A basic knowledge of preservation and history is expected.  A strong administrative background is necessary, and marketing experience desirable.  Community involvement is a plus.

This position offers an exciting part-time (20 to 25 hours per week) opportunity for a highly creative and satisfying career.  Compensation commensurate with experience in the $30K - $35K range.  A one-month paid vacation is offered.
