Shakespearean Acting for Beginners

Don't miss out on CSC's first-ever adult acting class! Use Shakespeare's text to give you clues into how to perform his work. This class, led by CSC resident actor Jeff Sanders, will introduce you to the fundamentals of acting in a comfortable and nurturing environment. Shakespeare will be your acting coach, helping you to release your creative energy in this fun and challenging class.

TEEN CLASSES
Groundlings
Saturdays, September 2007 - April, 2008
9:00 - 11:30am
Ages: 10th-12th Grade
Cost: $725
This twenty-week acting intensive program includes theatre workshops, text analysis, and training in both voice and movement. The Groundlings are split into two acting troupes, allowing each participant to have the opportunity to further focus on developing their acting skills. The students are mentored by one of CSC's professional ensemble actors: Jeremy Dubin or Giles Davies. At the end of the program the Groundlings perform on CSC's main stage for family and friends. On Aug. 18, 2007 auditions will be held for this intense theatre program. To audition you must prepare a 2-3 minute Shakespeare monologue. Contact Megan Breier to reserve your audition slot.

PRE-TEEN CLASSES
Groundlings Jr. (Fall Session)
Sundays, September 9 - December 9, 2007
6:00 - 8:00pm
Ages: 7th-9th Grade
Cost: $275
Using the excitement of theatre games, this ten-week class focuses on basic acting skills, working together as an ensemble, and speaking Shakespeare's text. Workshops on movement, voice, text analysis, character development, and Shakespeare performance will take place throughout the program. Led by CSC Resident Actor Justin McCombs.

Instructors

Giles Davies (Groundlings) - was born in Hong Kong, where he began performing at five at the behest of his sister. He has traveled the globe extensively and performed solo work for schools, festivals, bars, and campsites along the way. He received his M.F.A. from OSU. Giles currently teaches at CCM and instigated the Groundlings program here at CSC. He is on the roster for the OAC's Artists in Education program and a member of Actors' Equity Association.

Jeremy Dubin (Groundlings) - Originally from Milwaukee, WI, Jeremy received his Bachelors degree from the University of Evansville and his Masters from The Ohio State University. He has worked for several theatres across the country, including the Milwaukee Rep and the Unseam'd Shakespeare Company, and has appeared in a number of independent films. In addition to being an ensemble member, Jeremy is the director of the CSC Shakespeare Summer Camp, co-director of the CSC Groundlings program, and a member of Actors' Equity Association.

Justin McCombs (Groundlings Jr.) - As an actor and teaching artist in CSC's 2006-2007 Young Company, Justin had the opportunity to travel to schools within two hours of Cincinnati and teach Shakesepare to students in grades four through twelve. Justin is a graduate of Western Illinois University.

Jeffrey Sanders (Shakespearean Acting for Beginners) - Before arriving in Cincinnati, Jeff received his M.F.A. in acting from Western Illinois University. In addition to being both an actor and teaching artist at CSC, Jeff has taught Introduction to Theatre at Gateway Community College and Western Illinois University, Shakespeare Master classes at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, and American College Theatre Festival and movement and acting classes for three years at Blue Lakes Fine Arts Camp. He is excited to take on the challenge of teaching the first-ever adult acting class at CSC
