CAC Invites Local Artists to Reach Downtown Audiences
CAC to launch 44, a weekly Monday lunchtime arts series for arts enthusiasts who live, work or find themselves downtown, highlighting the importance of contemporary arts, to happen in Kaplan Hall, CAC’s Lobby.
CINCINNATI—The Contemporary Arts Center announces a plan to launch of a new creative arts series 44 at the Lois & Richard Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art. Artists of every discipline and genre – poets, musicians, dancers, playwrights, actors, performers, filmmakers – are invited to demonstrate their craft every Monday in the Center’s Kaplan Hall Lobby 11 am – 2 pm. Attendees can bring their own lunch or pre-order a catered lunch for $10.
“As we celebrate our fifth year in the Rosenthal Center, we’re emphasizing the plural in Contemporary Arts Center,” says Raphaela Platow, Alice & Harris Weston Director and Chief Curator of the CAC. “It isn’t just visual – we’re featuring emerging and established talent in music, dance, theater, performance art, poetry and even DJs. We invite all disciplines and all of our neighbors.”
44 celebrates all forms of art and all stages of artistic practice. From dramatic readings to rehearsals to full-scale performances, 44 provides a dual experience – to artists seeking new audiences and venues, and to the downtown community seeking creative interaction.
“I hope people who pass by on the street will be curious about what they see,” said the Rosenthal Center’s world-renowned, visionary architect Zaha Hadid as she designed Kaplan Hall. “They should ask themselves, ‘What's going on in here?’ and not hesitate to walk in and find out.”
CBS News reports that 75% of office workers regularly eat lunch at their desks while working. The CAC invites those who habitually work through lunch to discover how productive they can be with a weekly creative break.
