boys sniffing glue.
i watched these boys sniffing glue at the edge of the city, climbing the rocks with their broken feet.

diwali 2001.
a hindu festival.

key walla.
he cuts each of these keys with a blade powered by peddling a 10-speed bike.

the mothers.
these women taught me the beauty of giving with love.

churchgate station 1.
this was taken with a pinhole camera that I placed on the ground as the trains vibrated the earth.

ville parle market.
we held eyes for only a moment before she returned to her work.

woman on train.
in a city of 15 million sometimes there would be a stilling quiet.

rickshaw.
i can only dream of having the sight of a rickshaw driver.

prem se bhiksha dijiye.
(what you give with love I accept.)
she and I sat on the train in bombay speaking only with our proximity.

boy on train.
it was midday and the trains were empty so no one cared that he rode on the women's car.

churchgate station 2.
volumes of people and tireless movement.

lanterns.
no street was without the humming red glow of the diwali lanterns.

train passing.
unmoved by the racing train as they gathered their meal.

slant.
while waiting for her mother, i was caught by this girl's black dress.
